# Interactive floor plan

> An interactive floor plan is a digital representation of a floor on which every bookable resource – desks, meeting rooms, parking spaces, lockers – is placed in its real position and shown with its live status. Employees book by selecting a place on the plan rather than a name from a list, which makes proximity to colleagues, windows, quiet zones and equipment visible at the moment of the decision.

## Why the plan rather than a list

A list can tell you that desk 4-118 is free. It cannot tell you that it is next to the printer, three rooms away from your team and beside the window that gets the afternoon sun. Those are the criteria people actually use, and they are spatial. Showing the floor makes the choice comprehensible and reduces the number of bookings that are changed the next morning.

## What the colours mean

Typically green for free, red or grey for booked, a separate state for blocked or unavailable resources, and a highlight for the user's own booking. Filters – equipment, team, accessibility features – narrow the plan rather than replacing it.

## Maintenance is the real work

The plan is only useful while it matches the building. A desk that was removed during a renovation but still appears on the plan produces a booking that cannot be honoured. Keeping the plan current is an operational task of **space management**, and it is the main reason to hold the building model in one system rather than in a CAD file and a PDF.
