# No-show rate

> The no-show rate describes the share of booked desks or rooms that were not actually used. It is measured through the missing check-in. A high rate means blocked capacity: resources appear occupied but stand empty – particularly relevant for meeting rooms and parking spaces.

## Why no-shows cost more than shortage

A missing desk is visible and immediately creates pressure to act. A no-show is invisible: the room counts as occupied, nobody uses it, and the organization concludes that more rooms are needed. That is how investment decisions get made on numbers that systematically overstate reality.

## Remedies in order of effectiveness

First, a check-in requirement with automatic release: no check-in means losing the booking after a defined period. Second, transparency: when no-show rates per area are visible, behaviour often changes without further measures. Third, reminders by push or email. Fourth – and only then – quotas or restrictions.

## Realistic targets

A no-show rate of zero is neither achievable nor desirable; short-notice cancellations are part of working life. What matters is the order of magnitude: low single-digit percentages are unremarkable, double-digit values point to missing rules or to booking being too easy without consequence.
